Richie Porte is surely going through a fantastic phase of his career of late. The Australian is in full-form, bagging one major win after another & his latest focus is on Giro crown.
The Australian great clinched his 2nd WorldTour title in stage race recently along with the victory of Catalonia Tour & Paris-Nice win. It was the 2nd Paris-Nice win for him.
The Tasmanian looked sturdy on hilly 7th & final stage at Barcelona to triumph at the race by 4 seconds from Alejandro Valverde of Spain, who picked twelve bonus seconds given his stage win as well as the victory at intermediate sprint.
Domenico Pozzovivo, the famous Italian rider, was 1 second behind Alejandro in 3rd overall while two-time Tour France hero Alberto Contador was further adrift by 2 seconds.
Richie stands in the 1st position in World Tour rankings & he is all set to lead his elite Sky team into Giro Italia that is scheduled for May.
“Honestly, it is just unbelievable”, stated Porte, who came second at Down Under Tour in his own homeland as the current season ushered.
“This season is going really awesome for me, starting from the Down Under Tour to now”, he continued. “I could not ever imagine that it would be going this well, especially where I was in 2014.”
The Catalonia Tour is said to be a major lead-up chase prior to Giro.
Added to Porte, the other riders who were within top 6 at the Tour – Fabio Aru from Italy, Rigoberto Uran from Columbia, Alberto Contador & Pozzovivo- would be lining up for Giro as well.
“We have got a fine little run-up towards Giro Italia and hence we are hopeful hit it in stellar form”, noted a confident Porte.
“I am pretty confident to go there & fight for podium.”
