2017 TOUR DE YORKSHIRE: FIRST STAR RIDER UNVEILED

Having been unveiled as the first star rider of 2017, Thomas Voeckler will be back in the 2017 edition of the event to defend his Tour de Yorkshire title.


His success in the competition came last year on the final climb of the third stage which saw him break away with Nicolas Roche of Team Sky.

To take home the overall victory, Voeckler was able to outsmart his rival along Scarborough’s North Bayin a two-way sprint.

He has thus become one of the most celebrated cyclists of his generation, with the win which proved the highest-profile success of the 2016 season for the Frenchman.

Due to his never-say-die attitude and his unique attacking style, he has earned himself a cult following.

Voeckler, 37, held the iconic yellow jersey for nothing less than 20 stages, won four Tour de France stages, as well as topping the mountains classification in what has very much been a glittering career.

He announced his plans during last September to retire from pro cycling after the Tour de France this summer. Essentially, it means that the Tour de Yorkshirewill be his last appearance on British soil. The event will hold from 28thto 30th of April. Continue reading
